Boschert Greenway Trail Opens

Great Rivers Greenway has finished work on the new Boschert Greenway Trail that connects Fox Hill Park to Fountain Lakes Park.  City and Park officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the 2-mile trail on Wednesday, October 22.

The trail begins in Fox Hill Park and runs across to New Town Boulevard and Fountain Lakes Park.  The paved trail is great for walking, biking and rollerblading.

Come check it out and let us know what you think by leaving a comment here on our Park Blog.

Is the trail only 2 miles? How long is the distance from Boschert Town Rd. (beginning at Charlestowne) to New Town Blvd. without inlcuding the Fox Hill portion? ARe there any plans to make a sidewalk to connect to New Town? I love the trail, but am hoping for a connection to New Town soon. The road is too dangerous and it would be more fun if I didn’t have to turn around and go back the way I came.

Yes, the developers at New Town are very excited to connect to the City’s Greenway system. When they complete Phase 10 of New Town (I believe they refer to it as the Beach District) there will be a connection to the trail.

As far as mileage goes, the whole trail clocks in at just under 2 miles. I’ll have to look up the exact distance from Charlestowne to New Town Blvd. and get back to you.

Okay, I looked at some info and I believe the trail is 1.71 miles from Charlestowne to New Town Blvd.

I also wanted to let you know that there are plans to widen the roads and to include a bike lane (in addition to the newly completed trail) so hopefully those walks don’t feel as dangerous. These plans won’t be started, though, till late next year or possibly 2010.

The Trail is very nice. If your looking for a nice flat, straight surface this is the trail. I know the trail system is under development, but it leads to pretty much a dead end right now. The intersection at Charlestowne is pretty dangerours to cross, I know there is a new state of the art alert system notifying drivers of the crosswalk but that whole intersection is a mess. My family will enjoy and use the trail but look forward to the completion or expansion of the system.
